Welcome to Sierra Training, specialists in high quality, instructor led, technical training on IBM’s System i (AS/400, iSeries, i5) platform.

We have been running courses from our classroom and at customers sites within the UK and abroad, for over 29 years.

Our instructors have been working on the system since its inception in 1988. They each have over 10 years commercial experience working in various sectors of industry (financial, manufacturing, distribution, retail etc.) in addition to over 20 years training experience on the system with each instructor being IBM certified and accredited in IT training.

The Training Experience

We adopt a “hands” on approach to training where delegates work on the system, under our expert guidance, in a comfortable, relaxed and friendly environment.

All courses are highly interactive, giving delegates a platform to discuss any questions, thoughts and opinions they have. There are plenty of practical exercises for delegates to practise and consolidate the skills they have learnt.

Each delegate’s experience, background and objectives are taken into account prior to the start of the course, enabling the instructor to tailor the course to meet the individual’s needs. With a maximum of 3 delegates per course the instructor can give each delegate the personal attention required to maximise their education and fulfil, and surpass, their objectives. The maximum number of 3 delegates per course allows us to comply with, and exceed, current socially distancing guidelines.

We pride ourselves on our course documentation which is comprehensive and constantly being updated with the latest features. Testament to this is the fact that they are used as reference manuals by our customers within their workplace and we have always received very positive feedback on the quality of the course documentation.

New Venues and Safety Procedures

From September 21st 2020 our training courses are now being run from a meeting room in a local hotel just off of the M1 in Northampton.

We will be using the Campanile hotel or the Holiday Inn Express hotel which are both situated just off of Junction 15 of the M1. We will advise which hotel we will be using when the course is booked and send you the appropriate Information Guide and safety information.

The training room being used is fully air conditioned. Coffee, tea, and water will be available, and lunch is provided at the hotel.

We have implemented comprehensive cleansing and social distancing measures, so you can feel safe in the knowledge that all necessary precautions and guidelines have been taken to create a safe learning environment.

In the training room all furniture and equipment (i.e. desks, chairs, PC’s, monitors, keyboards, mouse, common touch points etc.) will be deep cleaned and sanitised before each course. Each delegate and the instructor will be over 2 metres apart with a maximum of 3 on any one course to ensure social distancing. Each delegate will have a transparent protection screen on the desk behind the monitor. The instructor will wear a visor and there will be masks and gloves available for each delegate, although it is your choice on whether to wear these as at this point in time, they are not mandatory. Anti-viral hand sanitiser gel dispenser is available in the classroom. We will open windows and use the air conditioning to improve fresh air circulation and air quality.

The hotels we will be using have had full independent covid risk assessments carried out and have implemented their own safety procedures which you can download below:
