Sierra are experienced in providing training courses on site, using your equipment. We need a suitable training environment and a suitable Server with the correct course materials (we'll send these to you a few days in advance) and any licensed software loaded.
An additional charge is made for expenses incurred in providing an in house training course. Expenses will normally include instructor travel and subsistence expenses. A quotation for expenses will be provided on receipt of your enquiry.
Most of the courses listed on this web site are available for in house presentation. There is a maximum attendance recommended for each course, specified as part of the footnotes to each course. This maximum is based on our experience of instructing courses over the last 11 years and ensures that delegates get the best from the course. There is no minimum attendance for an in house course.
The training room needs to be equipped for the course. For theory courses, a whiteboard or flip chart is enough. For any practical courses, you need to provide a terminal or PC attached to a Server for each delegate on the course. Access to a printer is required for most courses. Some courses require additional equipment, for example, Communications courses.
We pride ourselves in organising in house courses, and we will advise throughout the planning stages. We will need to know when you would like your course, how many delegates will be attending the course and approximate room dimensions showing access to power and telephone points. We would like to discuss your objectives with you beforehand. We may also need your recommendations for a local hotel for our instructor.
Course notes and course materials to be loaded on the Server will be sent some days in advance to the company contact, or will be provided by the instructor on arrival.
It is important to give delegates a break on courses, preferably away from their work environment. We would ask you to provide delegates (and our instructor) with a light lunch (normally around 12:45), and to ensure that drinks are available throughout the course.
For each course title, the duration and start time is expected to be the same as a public course, although we will vary this to suit your own working environment. A 25% premium is charged for courses delivered on a shift basis or over a weekend. Course fees for in house courses are priced for up to 4 or 6 delegates. The additional delegate rate shown is applied for each subsequent delegate on a single course.
One of the great benefits of in house training is that it can be targeted to the delegates more effectively than a public course. It may be that some materials are not required within a course, or that some need to be included from another course. Or you may just like an overview of particular topics, omitting any practical exercises. No problem.
We will agree any customisation with you before the course commences and document this with the course objectives. We will be pleased to provide tables of contents of different courses to facilitate this process.
Once the course is agreed, we will confirm the duration of the course. Where a course duration differs from the standard course, we will simply charge pro-rata for the course. Where the course includes modules from different courses, we will normally charge you at the rate of the higher priced course.
For some courses, we are able to tailor the exercises to suit your environment. A good example of this is the Query course where we can alter the exercises to use files from your database to assist your users to learn Query in a more relevant environment. A charge will normally be made for this service to reflect the amount of work carried out by the instructor. Where we need to develop additional course materials for a course, we will provide a quotation before we start work.
Sierra operate a policy of recharging expenses. We appreciate that you need to budget for your training, and we therefore operate on fixed scales of charging so that you know what the final invoice value will be in advance of the course. We have found that our customers like this "No Hidden Extras" policy. Detailed below are the expenses that we will charge you.
