Training Path

iSeries (AS400) RPGIV (RPG4) Programming Training Path

RPGIV (RPG4) Programming training path shows the course progression for iSeries (AS400) RPGIV (RPG4) Programmers.

iSeries (AS400)
System Facilities
4 days System Facilities course is the foundation course for programming work on the iSeries (AS400). It provides the skills to use the editing tools that are provided on the iSeries (AS400), and provides hands on experience in the use of the iSeries (AS400).
iSeries (AS400)
Program Design
1 day Delegates without prior programming experience should attend this course. We normally schedule the Program Design course to follow the iSeries (AS400) System Facilities course.
At this point, you may like to check the CL Programming training path, as RPGIV (RPG4) and CL Programming are frequently used together.
iSeries (AS400)
RPGIV (RPG4) Programming
5 days RPG is a popular programming language on the iSeries (AS/400). RPGIV (RPG4) Programming is the base RPGIV (RPG4) programming course. We recommend a period of practical RPGIV (RPG4) programming after taking this course before taking the iSeries (AS400) RPGIV (RPG4) Advanced Programming course. If you are looking to maintain rpg programs on the iSeries then you will also need CL Programming knowledge.

iSeries (AS400)
Interactive SQL
1 day
Although a late arrival on the iSeries, SQL has rapidly become the de-facto standard for database access across all computer systems. This one day course provides an introduction to using SQL internatively on the iSeries.

iSeries (AS400)
SQL Tools and Techniques for iSeries Developers
2 days
SQL Tools and Techniques for iSeries Developers two day course is for application development staff needed to view, create or modify test data quickly and simply and then go on to embed SQL in to an RPG programming language.
iSeries (AS400)
RPGIV (RPG4) Advanced Programming
5 days
Attendance of RPGIV (RPG4) Advanced Programming 5 day course will develop more comprehensive and user driven applications. Multi user programming skills, error handling techniques and subfile program development will allow the programmer to write more robust applications
iSeries (AS400)
CL Programming
4 days CL Programming is the basic CL Programming course, which provides the foundation for the follow on courses.
CL Programming courses may be taken before or after RPGIV (RPG4) programming courses.

With over 1500 commands, mastering CL programming becomes more an issue of learning programming techniques, rather than commands and paramteters. This course teaches some of those programming techniques.
At this point, you have completed the learning for RPGIV (RPG4) on the iSeries (AS400). The next step might be to cross train to iSeries (AS400) ILE Fundamentals, iSeries (AS400) RPG400 Programming or even iSeries (AS/400) Introduction to Java for RPG Programmers.
