This course is intended for operators, technical support staff, programmers etc. who are responsible for setting up and tailoring the work management environment to ensure maximum throughput and good performance.
Ideally delegates will have attended the Operations course (ISOPS), Advanced Operations (ISOPA) or System Facilities (ISSFC) course or have the equivalent hands on experience. Note that there is considerable overlap between this course and the System Management and Administration course, so delegates should only attend one of these courses.
• Introduction to Work Management
• Key questions to consider prior to setting up the work environment
• Detail the different types of job on the system
• How work flows through the system
• Create subsystem descriptions
• Adding work entries to subsystem descriptions
• Detail system storage pools
• How to create a shared and private system storage pool
• Understand how routing entries work
• Add routing entries to a subsystem description
• Create and manage job descriptions and job classes
• Describe other work management related objects
• Start, end, change and work with subsystems
• Transferring jobs to other subsystems and re-routing jobs
• Describe the work management related system values
• Describe in detail the QPFRADJ system value and recommended settings
• Describe other performance related system values
• How to set up initial system storage pool sizes and activity levels
• Monitoring page fault rates and job transition rates
• How and what to monitor for good performance
• Manually tuning the system for good performance
• How to change storage pool sizes and activity levels
• Use commands to monitor the system (WRKSYSSTS, WRKACTJOB etc.)
• How automatic tuning works and how you can customise this
• Advanced tuning on the system
• Tips on tuning
• Collecting performance data using Collection Services
• Use Navigator to monitor system resource usage on one or more servers
• Create and print performance graphs using Navigator
• Use the graph history tool in Navigator
• Create and run job, message and file monitors
• Display and analyse performance data
• Using the performance advisor
• Detail the different types of performance reports
• How to generate performance reports
• Analyse the system report
• The Performance Tools menu
It will depend on the job role of the delegate as to which other courses they should consider attending. As an example if the delegate is in a support role the Advanced Operations (ISOPA) may be a suitable follow up course.
