iSeries (AS/400) Interactive SQL

Introduction

Although a late arrival on the iSeries, SQL has rapidly become the de-facto standard for database access across all computer systems. This one day course provides an introduction to using SQL interactively on the iSeries.

What you will learn

On completion of this course, you will be able to:

• Start an interactive SQL session.
• Enter an interactive SQL statement.
• Select SQL parameters and options.
• Use SQL to display the contents of a database file, including row and column selection.
• Use SQL to update data in a database file.
• Use SQL to add and remove rows.
• Use SQL verbs and clauses.
• Use SQL to create views and indexes.

Who should attend

Application development staff needing to view, create or modify test data quickly and simply. Application support staff who need to manipulate data within database files. Technical users of Query/400 requiring a more direct interface into database files.

Pre-requisites

Delegates attending this course should attend the iSeries SYSTEM FACILITIES course first, or alternatively should have a good understanding of the iSeries and a knowledge of relational database concepts.

A course manual with supporting documentation is provided. The course includes practical sessions to use SQL statements against database files on the iSeries.
