The iSeries is a versatile system, with many
capabilities. By attending this course, delegates will learn about many of
these capabilities, and will gain a thorough foundation upon which to
build.
On completion of this course, you will be able to:
- List the main features of the operating system.
- Identify the main licensed programs.
- Navigate the system using menus and commands.
- Work with objects and libraries.
- Describe the iSeries work environment.
- Create database files on the iSeries.
- Use query to retrieve information from files.
- Use PDM and SEU to enter source code.
- Compile and run programs.
- Apply basic security settings to objects.
- Use SDA to create screen displays and menus.
- Write a simple CL program and command.
- Work with and understand the use of message files.
Programmers, Analyst/Programmers and Analysts
responsible for the development and use of systems on the iSeries. Supervisors,
System Integrators, Help Desk Support Staff, Technical Support Personnel and DP
Managers will gain a thorough understanding of the iSeries from this course.
Senior Operators may also attend this course prior to going on to CL
Programming.

A course manual with supporting documentation is provided. Practical sessions on this course deal with the iSeries work environment, menu creation, the database environment, and the application development environment. Delegates will create a database file and data, interrogate this file, and will create a screen display of the file. Delegates will also create a simple CL program and command, to bind the application together thus simulating the development cycle.
