Introduction

This course introduces delegates to program design techniques to improve programmer productivity. It improves the awareness of the programming environment for both testing and development of applications on the iSeries.

What you will learn

On completion of this course, you will be able to:

Identify the steps in program design.
Use flowcharts when designing a program.
Design and write control structures for programs.
Develop program logic using pseudo code.
Recognise the different types of, and requirements for input and output in a program.
Recognise the logic schemes for the main programming styles of report programs, enquiry programs and maintenance programs.
Design programs in a modular style to avoid duplication of code.

Who should attend

Programming staff with limited or no previous programming experience in programming on an iSeries or AS/400.

Pre-requisites

Delegates should attend this course prior to embarking on a programming career. This course is scheduled to run immediately after the iSeries SYSTEM FACILITIES course.

This course is suitable for delegates embarking on a programming career using RPG/400, RPGIV or Cobol.
